NASA leader Raila Odinga on Saturday came close to announcing that he will run in 2022 for the presidential seat.
In the clearest hint on his political journey since he was appointed by the African Union as High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, Raila said he still holds to his political ambition.
“I want to clarify that the recent appointment will not affect my political ambitions,” Raila said.
The ODM leader spoke during the burial of former Organisation of African Unity administrator William Odhiambo Okello.
Raila has been under pressure from Deputy President William Ruto’s allies to quit local points after he got the regional appointment.
“We don’t want to hear politics of tibim and tialala anymore from him. Let him go to his new office in South Africa and work from there,” Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa once told Raila.
The allies see Raila as their only hurdle to Ruto ascending to the president in 2022.
The NASA co-principal, however, said that his role at the AU will in no way affect his local politics.
