The suspect identified as Lilian Maina is alleged to have stolen 5 million shillings from a safe before going missing on October 7.

According to one of Nyachae's wives Grace Wamuyu, the money was taken from her bedroom as she left for the United Kingdom to visit the ailing veteran politician.

Consequently, the house help's daughter Grace Mbugua was arrested but released by a Nairobi court on Wednesday, after helping the police with investigations for a week.

The prosecution argued that Ms Mbugua had picked her mother up and escorted her to Kitengela after the crime, and therefore must be aware of her whereabouts.

"We started investigations and Ms Mbugua was arrested on October 29 on the strength of phone calls data which showed she had picked up the suspect and escorted her to Kitengela, ”the prosecution said in an affidavit, according to the Standard.

Nyachae's wife argued that she forgot the key on the safe door after opening it on September 28, before leaving her home in Spring Valley, Nairobi in the care of servants, among them the two.

By the time she reported the matter at Parklands Police Station upon her return with the discharged Nyachae, she said, the suspect had disappeared.

However, Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot in his ruling suspended the matter, terming it 'a visit on parent's sins on her child'.
