St. Peters Mumias worked tirelessly to upset Upper Hill High School in a hard fought 2-1 win, to dislodge one of the top favourites for the COPA Coca-Cola Under-16 national finals at Hill School, Eldoret.
The western region champions led through Issa Okumu's 44th-minute goal before Ethan Vumi from the Nairobi region champions equalized in the 48th minute. Issa Okumu then grabbed a second and winning goal of the match in the 67th minute to ensure the team progressed to the finals.
In the other semi-final match, St. Antony High School proved to be a hard nut to crack after thrashing harmless Riyabu Secondary School 5 - 0. Ansor Shamun and Kennedy Mwendo grabbed a brace each and Juma Lugogo was also on the scoresheet ensure the Rift Valley champions are set to once again win the national title.
In the girls’ category, Moi Girls Nangili continued with their impressive form with Oruko Noel grabbing two goals to help the debutants silence last years’ champions Olympic Girls High School 2-0.
In the other semi-final match, Karamana Jacinte scored a brace with Nanjala Sarah scoring a goal to ensure Wiyeta progresses to the finals slated for Saturday. Waa Girls managed to pull one goal from Mwambiti Tayira through a penalty in the 51st minute.
Saturday's finals will have Moi Girls Nangili squaring it out against Wiyeta Secondary School with St. Antony High School going head to head with St. Peters Mumias.
