A man found himself in trouble with villagers after he assaulted his mother over land inheritance on Sunday at Igembe village in Ichuni, Kenyenya Sub County, Kisii County.
Henry Oroo was chased by angry villagers who accused him of beating his mother, Magdalene Mokeira.
“Oroo is a Nyumba Kumi official but, he lacks respect to his widowed mother. He wanted his mother to stop cultivating a piece of land where she has been growing maize so that he can sell it and get money to drink beer with. His mother refused the proposal and he decided to beat her breaking her left hand,” said one of the villagers, Cyrus Ombeta.
Ombeta said Mokeira screamed for help and the villagers rushed to help her but Oroo managed to escape into a nearby tea farm.
Area Chief Zachariah Okwena confirmed the incident and said villagers chased the suspect but, in vain.
Okwena sacked Oroo from Nyumba Kumi team saying he is a bad example to villagers.
The chief urged residents to report the suspect to authorities anytime they will spot him in the village.
He said Mokeira was taken to Nyamache sub-county hospital for treatment.
