This comes only two days after the President fired shots at Jubilee leaders who have been engaging in early campaigns, accusing them, especially those from his Mt Kenya backyard, of disrespecting him.

Speaking on Monday, Sunkuyia blamed Uhuru's actions on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga, claiming that Raila is out to use their friendship to wreck the party.

He claimed that Raila is misleading the President, adding that Uhuru can proceed to give him whatever he is demanding, but not the Jubilee Party.

“Uhuru can give Raila all he wants but not our party. We are ready to support Uhuru on anything that means well for the country but if it has anything to do with Raila, that is where we shall part,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

Sunkuyia spoke alongside nine other MPs who attended Bahati MPs Kimani Ngunjiri's brother Bernard Ndungu's burial in Bahati, Nakuru County.

However, Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamae argued that Uhuru was responding to his new allies.

She said that Uhuru had been angered by members of the opposition who have been pressuring him to drop his initial vows to endorse Ruto and back Raila for 2022 instead.

“It appears that there are people who have angered him. I think it is those in the opposition who wanted him to declare who he wants to succeed him," she said.
