Homa Bay County Governor Cyprian Awiti is among vocal and veteran politicians in the Nyanza region.
Awiti is among Nyanza politicians whose allegiance to opposition leader Raila Odinga has never been questioned.
The Homa Bay County boss is now serving his second and final term in office.
With barely three years to the end of his term, Governor Awiti has not revealed his next political destination once his term ends in 2022.
The Governor has also not hinted on who he would prefer as his 2022 successor.
There is, however, talk that Governor Awiti could endorse his deputy Hamilton Orata for the top county position.
With the 2022 general election gaining momentum, Governor Awiti is likely not to play any major role in the Nyanza succession politics.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party governor is allegedly said to be battling partial blindness and has been allegedly frequenting Germany for treatment.
With his alleged medical condition, it will be impossible for the second term governor to make any contributions especially if Odinga will opt to contest the presidency in 2022.
It is likely that the Homa Bay Governor will be hanging his political boots after his 10-year service to residents.
However, in politics, they say anything can happen at any time and as such it is a matter of wait and see on the direction governor Awiti will be taking after his term comes to an end in 2022.
