Odinga, who turns 74 in January, may have little or less influence  post 2022 politics whether he's ejected or not, thus the importance of sourcing for his heir.

Already, two tragedies have hit his family; the first one coming in 2015 when he lost his politically active son Fidel Odinga while the second had his influential daughter Rosemary Odinga going blind after suffering from brain tumour in 2017.

With the two most heart breaking tragedies hitting his family, Odinga may have now shifted his focus on grooming his charming youngest daughter Winnie Odinga into politics.

In a phone interview, political analyst Gideon Mamboleo says Winnie is the only remaining child or Raila who can turn the family fortunes.

"I have seen them travel together and this is an indication that he has made his mind. I don't know of the second tragedy (Rosemary's blindness) but her absence means a lot.

"Going high profile meetings with Winnie means that she has now her father's confidence and probably could be a big thing in Kenya," he argues.

In July, Winnie accompanied her father to a meeting with former US President Barack Obama when he visited Kenya and the duo travelled together a day later to South Africa for Nelson Mandela Day.

On Saturday, with rumours going around about her appointment as Raila's personal secretary, Winnie travelled to Ethiopia with Raila for AU summit.

Her brother, Raila Jr, is media shy and is said not not be habouring any political interest thus the father's decision to go for Winnie.

In Kenya, political dynasties are not strange given than even President Uhuru Kenyatta is son to Kenya's founding president Jomo Kenyatta.
