A seven-year-old Grade One pupil was on Sunday murdered in Matungu by unknown assailants, barely 72 hours after a visit by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.
Reports on Nation indicate that Malik Moi of Bulimbo Academy, was reportedly killed meters from his home by unknown people, after playing with his fellow children.
"We had gone to the mosque for Magharib prayers when the attackers killed the boy and went away leaving the knife at the scene," said Mr Juma Makokha, the grandfather.
Malik was reportedly stabbed twice in the stomach and in the neck.
On Friday, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was arrested over a series of killings in Matungu, along with former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, and other local leaders.
Both were released on Sunday awaiting to appear in court on Monday.
Dr Matiang'i deployed more GSU officers in the region on Thursday, warning that the government will ensure all perpetrators are dealt with in accordance to the law.
"The days of those criminals who have been attacking villagers and killing them are numbered. From today, we are deploying the GSU and increasing the number of other security officers to restore sanity," he said.
