Deputy President William Ruto’s presidency in the approaching 2022 race remains a wait-and-see issue, as he is still struggling to get the needed numbers.

Ruto’s attempts to get the full backing of the Central Kenya region as he had expected earlier seems to be futile, with the region remaining most likely to back one of its own should such a person vie.

On the other side, his bid to woo the Coastal region is also unpromising due to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s apparent presidential preparations, with the same being the case in Western Kenya where the region’s biggest political figures Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula are also in the race.

The North Eastern region remains poorly populated and unable to propel his candidature, forcing him to look for another option which might help him boost his Rift Valley region votes.

Ruto should now think out of the box and make clever stunts to woo the Luo Nyanza region.

This he can do by approaching the aging Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, and giving him the honor to choose one of his closest allies to run alongside Ruto as his running mate in 2022, on a condition that Ruto backs the running mate for the presidency after some time.

This will bring him the entire Luo Nyanza region in anticipation of the top seat it has admired since independence.

With a running mate from the lakeside region, Ruto will be sure of the Western Kenya vote basing on the good relationship between the two communities, and will be better off than with one of their sons, considering the fact that Mudavadi and Wetangula are apparently set for a defeat in the race.

With the Luo vote in his basket, Ruto will be able to bully the remaining Luo allies from the Coast, Western and Lower Eastern into voting him.

The best option here will be either Siaya Senator James Orengo, or Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o who are currently ranked among the most popular leaders in the region, and whose nomination will be largely welcomed.

Now you know.
