Migori Governor Okoth Obado has denied claims of owning several properties across the nation, as has been claimed by one of the local dailies.
Obado is accused of owning among others, the Fairview Hotel, a four storey building at Namba Junction and the Rapogi Lwanda Complex in Rapogi, Migori.
However, speaking to the Standard on Sunday, the embattled county boss denied being the owner of the properties, terming the claims an attempt to tarnish his name.
“There is a well-choreographed attempt to paint me dark more so at this time when we had some small problems in court,” he said.
The local daily on Sunday reported that Obado is among public officials whose 59 properties are being probed over suspicion that they might have been irregularly acquired.
However, the governor now says that he has no links to the named properties, telling off reporters for linking him to ownership of the Rapogi property out of mere suspicion.
“The mere fact that a property is near my home does not make it mine, there are other Kenyans who are also acquiring properties,” he said.
He added that he owns very little property, among them a small apartment in Nairobi which has no links whatsoever with his office or public life.
“I own the small apartment in Umoja estate, but I acquired it long before the new Constitution leave alone Migori county,” he added.
