A section of locals at Chinese estate whose land is within the proposed southern bypass multi-billion project have given the National Lands Commission (NLC) 21 days ultimatum to pay their compensation.
Addressing the press at Chinese Estate on Friday led by Kibet Too a Jasho resident, they said they are tired with false promises and they only want their dues.
“We are giving NLC those 21 days to pay our money failure to which we will not allow the contractors to continue with their work until our money is paid,” said Too.
They wondered why NLC did an evaluation, urged them to open accounts and sign awards but up to now, they have not been paid.
“Why should we be crying all along for our problems to be solved, are we less Kenyans? We are calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to intervene for our dues to be paid,” added Too.
The locals condemned area MP Oscar Sudi and Kesses MP Swarup Mishra hit out at them for failing to address the issue only waiting to read it in the media.
Levis Boit a youth leader noted that if the 21 days will elapse without the payment being done they will demand fresh evaluation and pay the compensation according to the current land price.
President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the construction of the 32.9 kilometers to bypass in 2017 and all land and property owners that would be affected by the project were expected to be compensated by the government.
