Duale has defended the president’s proposal, saying it is manageable and that MPs should approve it.

The Garissa MP says that while the interests of Kenyans are important, the government also needs money to run its affairs and fund its projects.

The Jubilee lawmaker says that MPs should keep politics out of the VAT and approve it.

According to political analyst and economic expert Peter Ngure, the VAT outcome will either make or break Duale’s popularity.

Ngure says that Duale will suffer politically if MPs gang up and reject the president’s proposal.

“It is a do or die affair for Duale and even president Uhuru Kenyatta,” the analyst said on Thursday.

Ngure said that MPs are likely to side with ‘Wanjiku’ a move that could derail Jubilee governments’ development agenda.

“The president needs those taxes to advance his development agenda and the same time Kenyans are crying for being overburden with taxes,” he said.

MPs will vote on the proposed VAT on Thursday even as a section of them openly say that they will reject the proposal.
