A fire broke out in a residence at Swabrina Village in Likoni on Monday night. The fire which was estimated to begin at around 9 p.m in the evening set a blaze a couple's house opposite Our Lady of Mercy Academy.
"I was in my house watching the 9 O'clock news when I heard screams coming from outside. I quickly rushed out and saw a cloud of smoke from a distance," said Mama Miriam, a witness.
The plot which was on fire had quite a number of tenants even though only one section was affected.
The firefighting team arrived at the scene to put out the fire.
Casualties including a middle aged man were rushed to a nearby hospital with severe burns on his chest. The total number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
"The couple was fighting before they allegedly knocked over a gas cylinder which exploded," said Anderson, a witness.
