Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i was nowhere to be seen as top security chief on Friday in a meeting organised by local leaders on Friday ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour.
For close to five hours, several leaders convened at Governor James Ongwae's house to deliberate top issues to be addressed by the president and ODM leader Raila Odinga on January 23rd and 24th.
An MP who attended the meeting says Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and Ongwae formally invited the minister as one of senior leaders but did not show up.
"I can assure you than nobody was discriminated. The minister was among the first people to be invited. We are yet to establish why he did not show up despite confirming his attendance.
"The communication was done about one month ago and we had enough time to plan. It's unfortunate that he did not come. We however expect him during the tour."
Uniting Gusii community and championing development projects were discussed even as the leaders pointed out projects that should be launched when the two leaders visit.
Ongwae said: "We met as Gusii leadership and discussed among others, the president's trip and several projects that we expect that he will be launching."
Besides Matiang'i, vocal Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka was also not in the meeting.
