There is panic and uncertainty as undercover officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head office land in Garissa county, just a day after governor Ali Bunow Korane found himself in police cells.
However, their mission is not yet clear but speculations are rife.
It is widely believed that the officers are in the process of gathering more information on the events that led to the shooting of a former CEC, where the governor and his cousin are the main suspects.
The CEC is reported to have been in loggerheads with the first time county boss over graft issues in the county and an alleged fake university degree.
Even as this remains the major tussle between the governor and the DCI officers, it is reported that the Director of Public Prosecutions is keenly monitoring the county's activities.
Just a day before his arrest, Governor Ali Korane had been summoned by the Senate Public Accounts committee to explain some audit queries but he was later kicked out of the panel over lack of financial documents.
