Suspended Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang' will face one of his former students should he decide to appear before the tribunal unveiled to investigate his alleged misconduct, it has emerged.
The members of the tribunal picked by President Uhuru Kenyatta include Justice (Rtd.) Festus Azangalala, lawyer Ambrose Weda, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Senior Counsel Lucy Kambuni, Sylvia Wanjiku Muchiri and Amina Abdalla.
Lawyer Ambrose Weda, a renowned political analyst, happens to have been Ojwang's former student at the University of Nairobi.
According to the lawyer's Facebook post, the estranged judge even supervised his dissertation.
"Executive Powers and Legal theory: Practical Power Exercise, Popular Will and the Role of Charisma, an analysis"(My LLB Dissertation theme, UON, 19/9/1992 supervised by Prof J.B Ojwang (now Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya). Score: A. Now looking at: 1. The Legendary Handshake 2. Executive Order no 2, 3. Hon William S. Ruto 4. Dr Fred Matian'gi, 5 PORK. Does CHARISMA play a role in Constitutional Maneuvering and Gerrymandering?" he noted in a Facebook post.
But the choice has not gone well with Ahmednassir Abdullahi, a seasoned lawyer who believes that Uhuru's choices could end up compromising the outcome.
Mr Abdullahi has been critical of the Supreme Court in recent times.
"Why do the handlers of H.E Uhuru always embarrass him?...why don't they do some homework when assigned simple tasks by H.E Uhuru? Ambrose has carried water for Ojwang all his life...and then you appoint him to clear him...why are processes in KENYA always RIGGED in advance?" he questioned.
Ojwang's retirement from Judiciary is due April 2020 and should he be convicted, then it will mark an awful exit from the corridors of Justice where he has served for a couple of years.
He also has an option of resigning before being grilled for alleged misconduct.
