The funeral programme of Captain Mario Magonga, DP William Ruto's pilot, could take longer than expected after it was established that his remains could not be identified, reports the Nation.
Captain Mario Magonga, an experienced pilot who at one point worked with Kenya Air Force, died alongside four Americans who are believed to be Ruto's political strategists.
And with the four Americans already identified, Mario's body is said to have burnt beyond recognision, forcing the family to take few bones gathered from the site to abroad for analysis.
The family has written to American embassy, demanding for proper investigations to be done to establish the cause of the Turkana helicopter crash.
“The bodies of the four American tourists were positively identified but it was very difficult to tell the remains of the fifth person as that of Capt Mario. The remains were charred beyond recognition,” Capt Magonga’s uncle Ibrahim wrote to the new United States ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter on March 8."There was no body.
Magonga's sister, Gladys Magonga, said the family had struggled to identify the remains for burial after government pathologist Johansen Oduor failed to March DNA samples.
"The rescue team found some bones, whose DNA the pathologist could not ascertain," Ms Magonga told the Sunday Nation.
"Basically, we are trying to confirm if the remains belong to him.”
Last week, Deputy President William Ruto visited the family in Karen where he paid tributes for the pilot. His burial may take longer than expected due to the missing body.
