Benard Muia Kiala is the former Machakos Deputy Governor.
Kiala was Governor Alfred Mutua’s deputy in 2013.
Though Kiala fell-out with Mutua over leadership issues, he is said to have reconciled with the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader.
In the August 8, 2017 election, Kiala fell-out with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka after the party failed to endorse him for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.
Kalonzo’s party instead endorsed former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti who won in the party primaries.
Kiala later unsuccessfully contested for the seat in 2017 as an independent candidate.
Kiala was born in 1968 in Masinga, Machakos County.
He schooled at Masinga primary and secondary schools before joining the University of Nairobi (UoN).
The former deputy governor has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
In 1993, Kiala was employed by Trade Bank as a banker.
In 1994, he was employed by CFC Stanbic Bank as a Banking Manager, a position he held until 2002.
Kiala joined active politics in 2013.
Apart from politics, Kiala is a philanthropist.
The former Deputy Governor runs the Kiala Foundation that provides civic and economic empowerment to youth and women in Machakos.
The foundation also gives bursaries to bright but needy students.
There are claims that he could bid for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022.
