Two Garissa MPs have hit out at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga for okaying the expulsion of Malindi Town MP Aisha Jumwa from the party.

Garissa Woman Representative Anab Subow and her Ijara counterpart Sophia Abdi Noor say ODM should not have expelled Jumwa.

According to the MPs, ODM's action subverts the democratic gains made in the country.

Speaking separately, the two lawmakers said Jumwa did nothing wrong to be kicked out of ODM.

The MPs now want Raila to soften up and allow Jumwa back to the party in the spirit of the handshake.

"Jumwa's expulsion is uncalled for and serves to undermine women influence in leadership," Subow told journalists in Garissa on Sunday.

On her part, Ijara MP Sophia Noor said, " We are pleading with Raila to overturn the expulsion and allow Jumwa her constitutional membership and right to the party."

The Ijara MP said that Jumwa should not be punished for expressing her democratic and constitutional right.

Jumwa was expelled from ODM after the party's National Governing Council meeting on Friday.

She was expelled for declaring support and working with Deputy President William Ruto.

Jumwa has, however, laughed off her expulsion.

The defiant Malindi Township MP says she will fight her expulsion in court.

The Orange Party is expected to communicate its decision to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
