Ijara MP Sophia Abdi now wants the government to give an amnesty period to young people who have allegedly been recruited into terror groups.
Noor says that the amnesty will give the youth an opportunity to denounce the terror groups and militants.
Speaking in Ijara Town on Monday, the MP said that majority of North Eastern youths especially in Mandera and Garissa are vulnerable to terror agents.
“The government should consider issuing an amnesty window to young people who are willing and ready to denounce terrorism,” she said.
The MP said that unemployment and radical teachings are pushing young people to terrorism.
She asked the county governments across the North Eastern region to tackle unemployment in order to save the young generation.
“It is painful for us parents to see our young men and women who we have raised being lured into terrorist groups,” she said.
Noor said that terrorism is evil adding that Islam religion does not advocate for it as some people have been propagating.
She asked the government to deploy more security in the region as the national examination begin.
“Our plea to the national government is to ensure that safety of teachers and candidates sitting for national examinations is guaranteed,” she added.
On Monday, North Eastern Governors met in the push to find ways of fighting the terror militants.
