Speaking on Saturday, Koigi lashed out at Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula whose name heavily featured in the saga, after the lawmaker refused to comment on the issue.

Addressing a media briefing at the Ford Kenya party offices a fortnight ago, Wetangula termed the gold saga a non-issue, adding that he had not recorded a statement over his links to it.

But Koigi is has faulted the remarks, accusing the former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Minister of sabotaging the war on graft by demeaning and belittling the ongoing efforts.

"Inakuwaje anarudi na kukataa kuongea akisema eti hayo ni mambo yasiyo na maana? Itakuwaje vita dhidi ya ufisadi vikose maana? (How can he refuse to comment, terming it a non-issue? How can the war against corruption be a non-issue)," he said on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.

Koigi further bashed the parliament for permitting the Senator to leave for an anti-corruption forum in Hong Kong China at a time when the debate was at the peak.

He wondered how a person implicated in graft can be allowed and trusted to represent the nation in an anti-corruption function.

"Pia inakuwaje seneta anayeshukiwa kwa mambo ya ufisadi anatumwa kuwakilisha Kenya katika kongamano la kupigana na ufisadi? (How can a senator implicated in graft be allowed to represent Kenya in an anti-graft forum?)," the former Subukia MP wondered.

The deal was reportedly between the Dubai royal family and local dealers, in a scandal that saw the names of ODM boss Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta dragged in.

Raila has since come out to clean his name, terming himself the whistleblower, while Uhuru and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i have remained silent on the issue.
