Opposition Leader Raila Odinga is aging and will soon be retiring from active politics.
The former Prime Minister has been the Nyanza region political kingpin for the last two decades.
Although the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has hinted that Odinga will be its Presidential candidate in 2022, his age and silence on the matter give a different indication.
A number of politicians have started aligning themselves to replace the former Premier, but I strongly believe that another hero will arise from the Odinga family and take over from Raila.
In the Odinga family, former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga, who is also Raila's younger sister, is the most likely one to take the mantle after the Opposition Chief retires.
This is because she is already engaged in active politics, and is updated on the current political happenings in the country owing to her closeness with the brother.
She is also very vocal, and goes to any extent to defend her brother against his critics. In addition to this, Ms Odinga does not fear expressing her opinion on issues of national concern.
These reasons have endeared her to the Nyanza people, and if she comes out and expresses interest in replacing her brother, she will be easily embraced by the electorates.
