Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has spoken about why he against the referendum.
Addressing press on Sunday at Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County, Sudi claimed he is worried about the negative effects of a referendum on the Kenyan economy.
According to Sudi, the proposed constitutional change will burden the taxpayers. He stressed that most Kenyans are currently broke and introducing referendum will drag them into extreme poverty.
"We don't fear referendum but I pity Kenyans like Sudi. You want to see their intestines out or die so that you can understand Kenyans have no money since you target major political offices?" Sudi asked.
Sudi, a close ally to DP Ruto, further challenged those supporting referendum should speak of a new referendum that shifts power. He said this will mean they want a genuine referendum to Kenyans.
The lawmaker also insisted that he feels the current constitution is still okay and hence no need for such a change.
"According to me, it's not yet time to change the constitution. We have not completed 10 years with it, " he said
This comes barely a day after COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli hinted on the likelihood of referendum before 2022.
