President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hassan Wario as Kenya's ambassador to Vienna, Austria.
In the latest appointments announced by President Kenyatta, Robinson Githae who has been serving as the Kenya's ambassador to the US has been posted to Vienna to replace troubled Wario.
The President might have dropped Wario as an ambassador because of the graft case he is battling in court.
In 2018, Wario was arraigned and charged in court with graft charges in connection to the Rio Olympic Games.
Wario pleaded not guilty to the graft charges and his case is ongoing at the Milimani anti-corruption court.
In the latest 18 ambassadorial appointments, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Mubea has been appointed as Kenya's ambasssador to Dublin.
In a statement sent to the media on Saturday, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Monica Juma said that President Kenyatta has also approved promotion and appointment of fifteen (15) serving officers to the position of ambassadors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"I congratulate each one of them for the honour bestowed upon them to serve our motherland, welcome those joining the ministry and wish the Ambassadors/High Commissioners designate good luck in vetting process," CS Juma said in the statement.
Those appointed for Ambassadorial and High Commissioner positions will be vetted by Parliament before taking their appointments.
