Former presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has warned against an alleged plot to sabotage Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Dida said a scheme to block Ruto from the presidency will have dire consequences on the country, as it happened a few years after the Independence.
He revisited the supremacy battle between Kenya's founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and his Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, that is said to be the cause of perceived hatred between Kikuyus and Luos.
In a tweet on Monday, the Alliance for Real Change party leader claimed the calls for change of structure of governance were aimed at sabotaging Ruto's bid, adding that they were being driven by his haters.
There have been calls to expand the executive and change from presidential to parliamentary system of governance through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which is a brainchild of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
"Kenyatta's hate for Oginga Odinga destroyed Kenya, the hate for Ruto is likely to finish what is left. We should not change the system of government just to punish one individual. President Moi introduced police brutality to punish opponents, several years later, it is out of control!" Dida posted on Twitter.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has also claimed that Ruto’s presidential bid is being fought by some powerful forces in government, saying they have been out to frustrate him so he can drop out of the race to the State House.
“They have tried the corruption trap, they have tried to write all manner of things in newspapers, they have even chased him from government houses and also reduced his security team, but we know all those schemes,” Sudi said on Sunday.
