Speaking on Wednesday night, the MP said that contrary to what most Kenyans are thinking, both houses; the National Assembly and Senate, now constitute poor people.

He claimed that most of the people who were considered rich were thrown out of the house in the 2017 elections, leaving only the not so financially admirable people as legislators.

"Bunge hii ni ya masikini. Wale waliokuwa matajiri hawako bungeni tena baada ya kuhudumu katika bunge iliyopita (this is a parliament of the poor. The rich are no longer in parliament after serving in the previous one)," he said.

The MP who was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show was addressing the fact that politicians are the ones most associated with corruption.

This comes at a time when the nation is witnessing the introduction of new and unprecedented ways of combating the menace, the latest being the recalling of Sh1000 notes.

The lawmaker who ran as Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi's running mate in the 2013 elections termed it wrong to look at the political class suspiciously.

"Tukisema ufisadi wakenya wengi wanaangalia wanasiasa lakini hao sasa hawana pesa. Pesa ziko na hawa vijana maana ndio wanaofanya kazi na serikali (when we speak of corruption, most Kenyans think about politicians who no longer have the money. It is now the youth who have the money as they are the ones doing business with the government)," he added.
