Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino now claims that he called President Uhuru Kenyatta, over the alleged assassination plot against Deputy President (DP) William Ruto.
The outspoken legislator said he called the Head of State after three Cabinet Secretaries were summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to make statements regarding the alleged assassination plot, but Uhuru refused to be drawn into the matter.
Speaking during a political show on NTV on Tuesday night, Owino dismissed the plot against the DP as a rumour, since he (Ruto) has not officially made a complaint to the DCI.
"After I heard the news about the alleged attacks on DP Ruto I called the president and he said he is not interested in sideshows and is concentrating on the Big Four agenda. The fact that the DP did not record a statement then it shows that this is a rumour," he said
The three CSs summoned at the DCI headquarters on Monday included; Sicily Kariuki (Health), Peter Munya (Trade) and Joe Mucheru (ICT).
They were accompanied by a number of Principal Secretaries and parastatal heads who have also been dragged into the allegations, which have highly raised political temperatures in the country.
They all denied the claims and refused to record statements, arguing that Ruto should first tell detectives what he knows about the alleged assassination plot.
Although he is yet to record a statement, DCI boss George Kinoti has admitted that the DP informed him that his life was in danger.
