Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday saw off a 100-man cheering squad for Harambee Stars at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Sonko noted that he had already settled the accommodation, meals and flights for the delegation heading to cheer the national team, as it embarks on the contest to win the cup.

The governor said he is impressed with the team, adding that he will offer the players support to make Kenya proud.

“I wish to take this opportunity to wish our national football team, Harambee Stars success in the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt,” Sonko said.

Kalonzo also wished the team well ahead of their clash with Algeria later today.

The team is in Group C alongside Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania. 

Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne has expressed confidence in the team ahead of the clash. His sentiments were echoed by the team's captain Victor Wanyama.

“I think there is no pressure. Pressure was there when we wanted to qualify, and now is the time to go out and enjoy ourselves and show the people we’re no pushovers .We had a good camp and we’re ready to battle,” Wanyama said.
