The Kenya African National Union party (KANU) is now accusing Deputy President William Ruto of trying to compel Rift Valley region into sharing in his political views.

According to the party Secretary General Nick Salat, the DP is trying to shepherd his Kalenjin community into backing his anti-referendum push.

Speaking to the Standard on Monday, Salat told the DP to stop attempting to make the community oppose the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga-led push.

He said that the region opposed the referendum in 2010 and its time to correct the mistake by voting in the new proposed changes, terming it a 'godsend' opportunity.

According to Salat, the Kalenjin nation should embrace the proposal which seeks to among others, revert the nation back to the presidential governance system, to correct issues they find unsatisfying.

The close ally of Baringo Senator and Ruto's chief political nemesis Gideon Moi termed it suspicious that the Deputy Head of State is obsessed with the current constitution despite having opposed it in 2010.

“That guy who is now rejecting any constitutional review (call) is just a self-seeker. There are things that he doesn’t want the electorate to know,” Salat is quoted.

Ruto has repeatedly said that the changes the nation need should revolve around releasing more money to the counties.

According to him, the changes are aimed at rewarding losers of top seats in the 2017 general elections.
