Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto moments after he joined the water dam saga debate.
Speaking during a Judiciary function at the Supreme Court Thursday, the DP rubbished claims that the state has lost Sh21 billion in the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams.
He added that only Sh7 billion has been paid to the contractor and that not even a single shilling has been lost as the government can provide bank statements to prove it.
"You have heard that government has lost about Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Arror dam, which is a flat lie.
The money in question is about Sh7 billion, and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost because we are a responsible government," Ruto said.
But in a quick rejoinder, Sifuna who is a close ally of opposition chief Raila Odinga, reduced Ruto's explanation to an arrogant statement aimed at covering up for the government.
He added that bank statements are not proof enough to save the government, reminding him that Kenyans are not fools to be taken in circles.
"So other than the bank guarantees what do we have to show for the 7 Billion? As a "hustler" once said, kuna upungufu wa wajinga kenya hii (there is a shortage of fools in Kenya)," he tweeted.
The contractor CMC Di Ravenna has since been declared bankrupt, leading to no job on the construction sites.
