Kathiani residents have been urged to embrace government-sponsored projects in their localities.
Area deputy county commissioner Margaret Mbugua told the locals to stop being reluctant whenever they are required to be involved in State projects and programmes.
Mbugua said the residents had been naysayers to government projects and programmes which are intended to improve their living standards.
She spoke during the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations in Kitie, Kathiani Sub-county on Tuesday.
Mbugua said despite the fact that the time for Universal Health Care registration is almost up, some of the residents are yet to register.
She said the locals' reluctance to register for the UHC program denies them development and a chance to grow.
"UHC registration will ensure there's no burden of high medical bills. But some people are still not registering, and they know it's them who will benefit," Mbugua said.
Mbugua gave an example of the "Gas Yetu" project launched by the national government where most people in Machakos failed to take the gas cookers because they had been lied to that their identification cards will be used to vote.
"The gas cookers came and some of you just watched, now they're regretting that they didn't grab the chance," added she.
She urged the residents to avoid being misled by leaders who are living comfortable lives.
Her sentiments were echoed by area MCA Dominic Ndambuki who admitted that during the electioneering period, a mishap was experienced due to the electorates' being misled.
Ndambuki, however, urged the residents to change their attitudes and embrace government-sponsored projects in their localities.
