The party has been standing on shaking grounds lately, following recent revelations from Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba that some forces allied to the President are weakening it from within.

In an interview with a local television station a week ago, the Senate Majority Leader noted that the force is alarmingly strong and could soon succeed in separating the two, in what he said is an attempt to paralyse Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

However, speaking on Citizen Television on Sunday, Cherargei maintained that the two are still closely bonded, adding that they are in constant communication and nothing stands between them as of now.

"The President and his Deputy meet and consult on a daily basis, there is no problem between them," said the close Ruto ally.

He attributed the apparent cracks in the party on Uhuru's March 19 truce with opposition leader Raila Odinga, noting that the same is not only threatening the alliance but has also robbed the government of its development focus.

"The handshake should not translate to any other thing but only peace, cohesion, and development," added the leader.

Ruto's side has openly opposed the move, faulting the President for reaching out to Odinga who they have termed as a threat to their succession plan.
