Succession politics are slowly but steadily gathering momentum despite President Uhuru Kenyatta's strong warning to people engaging in early campaigns.
While Deputy President William Ruto spent his Saturday at Trans Nzoia and Bungoma, his main challenger from Rift Valley Gideon Moi pitched tent at Ziwa home in Uasin Gishu, the home county of the DP.
The Baringo senator hosted delegation from Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot counties where he asked them to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four agenda.
Mr Moi took a swipe at those engaged in early campaigns, adding that the North Rift region needs development rather than early campaigns.
“We have agreed with your leaders to tour the country to the sub-location. Some fresh blood have come to join us in the pursuit of development that benefits our people,” he told the delegations.
He promised to start tours in the region to listen to people's needs, adding that early campaigns would dismantle the president's agenda.
Tiaty MP William Kamket accused DP William Ruto of promising fake loyalty to the president, adding that he should lead through actions.
“It has taken Ruto seven years to pledge loyalty to Uhuru Kenyatta. That loyalty is hollow. Your actions are so loud that we can’t hear what you are saying. What you said in Eldoret is a lie. Prepare to be in the opposition,” Kamket said.
Last month, Mr Moi also pitched tent at Ruto's Turbo home, an indication that he's ready to swing the region to his advantage.
