Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei now claims that the opposition's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party died a long time ago.
Speaking on Tuesday, Cherargei termed this as the reason behind the party's activities which are allegedly aimed at causing confusion in the political scene, in a bid to affect the other parties.
According to the senator, ODM has been feigning collaboration with other parties to remain afloat and retain relevance.
"ODM died a long time ago. Their signature is confusion (handshake to handshake). They are just wobbling and perambulating around," he said on KTN's The Big Story show.
The MP was speaking in regards to ODM's support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Central Bank of Kenya's (CBK) introduction of the new currency notes.
ODM, which was initially divided over the inclusion of founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's portrait in the notes, on Tuesday announced that it has agreed to back the State.
The senator's remarks were dismissed by Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, who said that people's opinion regarding the changes should not entirely be linked to their parties.
The ODM MP argued that parliamentarians should be allowed to have their own opinion on such issues without being automatically linked to the parties they are in.
"The question should not be whether the opposition is dead but whether Parliament is dead. I am part of the party but I am not speaking for the party," said Nyamita.
Cherargei is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto who has repeatedly questioned President Uhuru's 2018 truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto has been of the opinion that Raila is using the truce, dubbed the handshake, to peddle confusion int Jubilee, with an intention of grounding it ahead of the 2022 general polls.
