In April 2013, there were talks within the Coalition for Restoration of Democracy (Cord) to get former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka back to parliament so that he could take the position of the minority leader.
The plan involved asking one of the Wiper's or Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) elected leaders to step down in favor of the Ukambani political kingpin.
It was felt that Kalonzo was dearly needed in parliament and stepping down for him was the only choice left for the opposition.
Kalonzo was set to take over the post of the National Assembly Minority leader had the plan succeeded but things never went as planned.
The then Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu was among the candidates asked to pave way for Kalonzo.
Kalonzo had united forces with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga with the hope that they would ascend to power.
However, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto defeated them.
Kalonzo has since not managed to recapture any seat since he started walking with Raila.
The Former VP has now declared that he will be going for the presidency in 2022.
The Wiper leader has maintained that he has what it takes to ascend to power.
He is expected to lock horns with DP Ruto and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua among other candidates.
