Haji through State counsel Catherine Mwaniki wants the duo charged with Monica Kimani’s murder denied bond because they could interfere with witnesses and the ongoing investigations.

Mwaniki told High Court Judge Jessie Lessit that they are waiting for directions from Witnesses Protection Agency (WPA) in regards to ‘secret’ witnesses in the murder trial and releasing the two accused persons could jeopardise the safety of the said witnesses.

The DPP argued that Maribe could use her media popularity and fame to interfere with witnesses.

Haji also claimed that Jowie might use his alleged political influence to undermine witnesses and the investigation that is still being conducted into Kimani's brutal murder.

“We will be opposing release of the accused persons on bail as we wait for directions from the witness protection agency on how to protect 'secret' witnesses who are crucial in the case,” she said.

Their lawyers are expected to file their bail application on Wednesday before another Judge after Justice Lessit withdrew from the murder case.

The case will be mentioned on Wednesday, October 17.
