Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is serving his last term in office. He clinched the county’s top seat in 2013 on the then United Republican Party (URP) ticket and retained it in 2017 after successfully edging out Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop alias Buzeki who was his close rival.
Mandago enjoys massive support from Uasin Gishu county residents and the majority of his supporters are not willing to let him exit the political field as some locals insist that governor Jackson Mandago is the next Kalenjin Kingpin.
However constitutional requirements make it clear that Mandago will not be vying for the gubernatorial seat in 2022. Mandago is a close ally to Deputy President William Ruto who is eyeing the presidential seat in the next general elections.
The two also hail from the same county and this makes it impossible for Mandago to join the presidential race as some of his political supporters would advise him.
All these will not make Mandago retire from politics and here are some of the possible moves for the vocal Uasin Gishu governor come 2022.
Mandago may decide to involve himself with Jubilee party campaigns. He will be determined to see DP Ruto become the President of Kenya and therefore join Ruto’s campaign team. Mandago is a well-known politician in the country and he will, therefore, be an important asset in the DP’s quest to the presidency. The county boss will obviously campaign and support Jubilee party candidate in the next Uasin Gishu gubernatorial race.
In the event that DP Ruto will win the presidential seat, Mandago will automatically secure a state job. Ruto will not miss to find a position for him in his government. The governor has all the qualifications to be a Cabinet Secretary, an ambassador or hold any office in the government.
