Mercy Njeri is a popular place that matatus operating along the London-Kiamunyi route have made the area their endpoint.

In the area, there is a school named Mercy Njeri primary school. A secondary has also been born.

The story of this mtaa is an interesting one which is laced with romantic undertones.

To start with, Mercy Njeri was a young girl who died out of heart conditions.

According to one mzee, who has live in the area for more than 70 years, Mercy Njeri was the daughter of a local woman who had a close relationship to retired President Daniel Moi during his heydays when Kanu was chama ya baba na mama.

The girl became sick. Moi sent a chopper to fly the girl to India and save her life.

However, the girl died while being attended to in one of the foreign countries.

Heartbroken, Moi rushed to the area and ordered the name of the school changed to Mercy Njeri in honour of the fallen girl.

That is how Mercy Njeri in Kiamunyi was born!
