Confirming the accident, Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu said the accident involved a lorry and a 63-seater bus which were travelling in the same direction.

Matu said driver of the lorry lost control of his speeding vehicle and hit the Tosha Express bus from behind which made it to roll and land into a ditch.

The commander said the driver might have experienced brake failure but did not stop after causing the accident even after the officers tried to stop him.

“The speed at which that lorry was travelling was not normal at all. The driver was totally out of control and could not be stopped whatsoever.”

“Brakes failure can be troubling especially on a busy highway. But it was rude for the driver to speed off after knowing that he had caused an accident that involved lives of innocent people. What if deaths occurred?” said Matu.

The police commander said they are looking for the driver of the lorry adding that investigations are ongoing.

Seventeen passengers sustained injuries during the morning accident and were taken to Molo Sub-County Hospital and Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

Molo hospital superintended Dr Bernard Warui, said they have treated the injured who most are in stable condition after they were brought at the facility at around 8:30am.
