Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s implication in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has been the biggest debate in the nation for the past few weeks.

However, despite being a national figure who obviously has a great backing and connections, he remains a sole person in his troubles, with only his lawyers and family on this side.

Others, including politicians from the Luo Nyanza have since sidelined him, very few speaking on his troubles and majority of the ones speaking calling for his conviction.

The worst ones are his colleagues from the region, Governors Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay) and Cornelius Rasanga (Siaya).

Despite hailing from the same region, belonging to the same Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and doing the same job, the trio has as well sidelined Obado, and has managed to avoid the issue in public since his arrest on Friday, September 20.

To many, this would be the exact meaning of bad and unreliable friends who are only around during good times and disappear into thin air when things get tough.

The question is, if they are indeed silent as they seem in public and have not reached out even in private, how has Obado taken it and what will be the relationship between them in the event that he is acquitted? Will they continue cooperating as has been the case?

And what would be their answer if one day they are put to task to explain their action, whether or not he is guilty? Is that reason for them to sideline him?

The answer to these questions only time will tell.
