Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has shortlisted four candidates (all women) for the position of deputy governor.
In a statement on Wednesday, Sonko shortlisted former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru, Gender activist Agnes Kagure, lawyers Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru.
Kagure is an insurance executive officer and gender activist.
Nyamu lost her bid to contest for the Nairobi Women Rep seat after she was defeated by Rachel Shebesh in the Jubilee Party nominations.
Weru on the other hand is the Executive Director of Akiba Mashinani Trust, a nonprofit organisation that deals in housing and finance.
The governor said that he picked the names from a list of 10 candidates.
In May, Sonko had nominated former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant and Canada-based lawyer Miguna Miguna for the same post.
The Nairobi County Assembly however rejected Miguna’s nomination.
