The man is suspected to have been a member of a gang of seven robbers who attacked three homes in Ngwata phase three and made away with valuables after raping a woman.

The incident was confirmed by Mlolongo location chief Peter Ndunda who said that police started hunting for the suspects early in the morning.

"Today the police shot dead one man suspected to be a member of a gang that raided three homes in Ngwata on Monday and made away with valuables", said Ndunda.

He said that the victim was found in possession of an AK-47 gun.

Ndunda said the middle-aged man engaged the police in a shootout before he was shot dead.

He said the area has lately experienced cases of insecurity. Ndunda urged residents to liaise with security agents by sharing important information to tame insecurity which is on the rise.

"Work with the police and even Nyumba Kumi to ensure security is enhanced in the area, know your neighbour and report anything suspicious", urged the chief.

He said police are still pursuing the remaining gang members and bring them to book.
