Deputy president Willam Samoei Ruto has joined leaders to congratulate Kenyan teacher who became the best in the world. Noting in his official Facebook page on Sunday, DP Ruto termed him as a selfless teacher.
Mr Peter Tabichi, 39, was awarded Ksh 100 million by Varkey Foundation on a celebration held in Dubai on Sunday evening.
He is an exceptional teacher who uses 80% of his salary to benefit society especially the less fortunate and supporting projects.
Dp Ruto congratulated him for winning the 2019 Global Teacher Prize.
"We celebrate your extraordinary, incredible achievement. Your selfless attitude, hard work and sacrifice epitomise the teaching profession. The country salutes you and all teachers, who nurture and mould our children to fulfil their potential and prepare them for the task of nation-building," stated Dp Ruto.
Tabichi is a Mathematics and Physics teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Pwani Village, Nakuru County.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also celebrated Mr Peter victory saying he is a shining example of what the human spirit can achieve not just for Kenya but the world.
“Peter you chose to teach in a remote part of Kenya and transform lives in such situations. A choice that sure was difficult. You give me faith that Africa’s best days are ahead of us and your story will light the way for all future generations,” said Uhuru
