Early last year, Kisumu East Sub County Health Inspector Charles Opiyo wrote to Kibos Sugar Company and Allied Industries (Ksail) warning them to stop polluting rivers pouring water into Lake Victoria or face legal action.
Despite the warning letter reaching the two companies, there is still public outcry over the ongoing pollution done by the alleged companies.
The locals residing along river Nyamasaria have always been disadvantaged by the pollution especially during dry seasons.
Reports from members of the public indicate that the Kibos sugar factory is still emitting its untreated waste into river Nyamasaria, yet the water from the river is used by many residents for domestic purposes.
Scientifically, spilled oil can harm living things because its chemical constituents are poisonous and can lead to rigorous skin and eye irritation.
It is further argued that spilled oil can also affect aquatic animals by reducing or increasing their body temperatures resulting to death.
Generally, polluted water when consumed by an animal or a human being knowingly or unknowingly can interfere with the health of that animal or person.
It is upon the health watchdogs within Kisumu County to take action against the alleged companies in order to save the locals and keep them out of danger.
