Victor Odhiambo Omanya reportedly committed the crime at Kisauni in Mombasa and has been on the run until his arrest in Kayole, Nairobi on Thursday.

The arrest was confirmed by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.

The DCI said that the woman personally brought the matter to his knowledge during the launch of a Social Justice Centre in Kisauni in April.

“The matter was brought to the attention of the DCI by the complainant (who spoke with a lot of emotion) while he joined other guests to launch a Social Justice Center in Kisauni,” said the DCI.

He added that the suspect, 28, is helping the detectives with investigations, after which he will be arraigned in court to face charges relating to the said offence.

The launch of the social centre was presided over by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji who outlined protecting women's rights as one of his major commitments.

The programme whose main aim is to promote a good working relationship between the public and State entities was launched through a collaboration of Haki Africa Organisation and the British government.
