A 43-year-old man was on Thursday arrested over allegations of hacking his dad to death at Twimwai village in Kyuso Sub County, Kitui County.
The suspect identified as Jacob Ngui is reported to have hit his 77-year-old dad on the head several times with a piece of wood.
Confirming the incident, Kyuso Sub County Police Commander Charles Machechi said that the suspect and his dad, Musili Musyimi, argued about a phone before Ngui allegedly committed the crime.
"His dad, mum and sister were seated near the door when the man came and asked his dad for a phone and his dad told him he doesn't have it and that's when he attacked him with a heavy piece of wood," said Machechi, in an exclusive interview.
He said that the man died on arrival at Kyuso Hospital.
The police boss said that the suspect chased his mother and sister from their home but was arrested after neighbours called the police and informed them about the incident.
"After committing the crime, he chased his mother and sister away threatening to hit anyone who comes near him. It is a good thing the police arrived at the scene and took him away," he said.
Ngui is being held at Kyuso Police Station awaiting arraignment in court on Friday.
