A middle aged man is nursing serious injuries after he was thoroughly beaten by angry locals for allegedly stealing his neighbour's chicken.
The suspect, Evans Ogendi was caught in possession of stolen chicken in Keroka, Nyamira County on Monday.
Angry locals claimed that the suspect is among the notorious 'village thieves' who have been stealing from locals.
"I spotted him going into hiding in a nearby maize farm with the chicken. I raised alarm prompting members of the public to chase after him and apprehend him," said a local Margaret Nyakoyo.

A local administrator Innocent Nyamweya said angry locals thoroughly caned the suspect before he rescued him.
"I was called only to be informed that the locals wanted to lynch the suspect. I rushed to the scene and rescued him," he said.
The chief said the suspect's body had injuries something that forced him to rush the him to hospital for treatment.

He warned locals against taking the law into their hands adding that crime suspects should be surrendered to authorities for legal actions to be taken.
"The suspect is currently being held at Keroka police station from where he will be arraigned in court," said Nyamweya.
