Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has urged the national government to deploy more security personnel to fight Al-Shabbab militants in Northern Kenya.
The governor alleges that the militants are re-grouping with intention of staging more attacks in the region.
Speaking to journalists at his office on Friday, the governor asked the government to quickly repulse the militants, who he said want to use religion to cause rifts between Muslims and Christians.
He said the government has enough security machinery to keep off the militants.
"The government must urgently deploy more security personnel to guard the borders and guarantee security of citizens in Northern Kenya," he said.
Korane said that the region has enjoyed security over the last months and that terrorist groups should not be allowed to cause havoc again.
"We have suffered as a result of these attacks that often affect our economy as a region and the government should act quickly and tame the militants," he added.
Korane was reacting to the killing of two non-Muslims by suspected Al-Shabaab militants along the Halugho-Garissa road on Friday.
The militants armed with AK47 rifles ambushed a bus heading to Garissa town and separated passengers based on their religion before executing two said to be non-Muslims.
North Eastern Regional Cordinator Mohamed Birik, while confirming the incident, said security has been tightened up.
He said that military forces are hunting down the suspected militants.
