The infamous walkout by Bomet MPs from President Uhuru Kenyatta's function on Monday could turn out to be deputy president William Ruto's elephant in the room.
A section of Mt. Kenya MPs now claim that the incidence is a wake-up call to area voters to reject a Ruto presidency in 2022 elections.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said:"If these people disrespect Uhuru while he is still President, what will they do when he retires? This should be an eye-opener to voters in Mt Kenya. They should see how disrespectful some MPs can be. We must rethink our strategy."
For Imenti North MP Maoka Maore, the occasion was stage-managed by Ruto's camp to make Uhuru a lame duck president.
Further, he said, Ruto's tactic of ambushing Uhuru to publicly declare support for him will not work, adding that they will not allow him to 'sabotage' the president's's legacy.
“The politics on Sunday should have been enough. Unfortunately, they wanted to dramatise innuendo and excitement. Nobody should attempt to make Mr Kenyatta a lame duck leader or underestimate his resolve,” he said.
Mr. Ngunjiri wonders why Ruto, who also accompanied Uhuru to the event, has remained mum over the matter despite being his stronghold.
The legislators led by Women Representative Joyce Korir, accused organisers of the event of blocking them from speaking, a reason why they stormed out of the function.
