The leaders are calling for the review of the ruling which they have termed as discriminatory and oppressive to the Muslim faith.

According to the leaders, the ruling that gave schools the discretion to decide on their own dress code goes against the Islam religious practice.

On Saturday, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan and Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi called for an urgent review of the ruling.

The two Muslim politicians said that some schools are using the ruling by the apex court to discriminate against Muslim students.

“The CJ should review the ruling and guarantee the constitutional right of Muslim, students,” Hassan said during a fundraiser in aid of families of two DusitD2 attack victims in Wajir.

The MP claimed that the ruling contravenes Muslim right to practice their faith.

“We still plead with CJ Maraga to re-look into the ruling on hijabs for the interest of Muslim faith,” Gedi said.

The vocal MP indicated that hijab is not a fashion statement but a religious practice.

The Supreme Court gave schools the discretion to make the rules on dress code.

The ruling means that school administrators will decide on whether to allow hijabs as part of their dressing or not.
